IBM computer upgrades, IBM computer modifications & replacement IBM computer components for IBM computers (IBM Desktop computers & IBM Tower computers including the IBM Netfinity computer & IBM Netvista computer) & IBM laptop computers (including the IBM Thinkpad computer). Mk-x Computing also supply compatible IBM computer memory and compatible IBM hard drive computer upgrades, & can even provide a fitting & data transfer service.

MK-x compatible IBM Hard Drive Solutions

 

    Many older IBM computers cannot use modern IBM hard drives, will not see the full capacity or cannot use them at their full speeds. MK-x can supply special cards for IBM desktop computers & IBM tower computers which slot into a spare PCI slot to resolve this problem, & can even perform the upgrade at MK-x & (usually) transfer the contents of the old IBM hard drive to the new drive IBM hard drive.

Supports Windows 98(SE), ME, 2000 & XP.

MK-x`s IDE 133 card provides users with complete flexibility, & even allows IBM hard drives in excess of 137gb to be fitted/run at full speed on older IBM computers.

 

    MK-x`s PCI 133 RAID controller has 2x connections which can each allow 2x IBM Ultra ATA 133 compatible IBM hard drives to be connected & run under RAID 0 or 1. This allows a RAID set to be configured, which will not impact existing IBM hard drives. 

Supports Windows 95 (B), 98, 98(SE), ME, NT4 (sp6), 2000 & XP.

 

    MK-x`s 3.5" USB IBM compatible Hard Drives`s are available as either 120gb or 160gb units. The units are pre-formatted s and configured to run under USB 1 or USB 2, use their own power supply & support plug & play. MK-x USB IBM compatible Hard Drives Support Windows 98(SE), ME, 2000 & XP.

 

    Highly recommended; MK-x`s  3.5" IBM compatible hard drives can be supplied pre-formatted in removable caddies (which fit into a spare full size 5.25" CD ROM bay). MK-x caddies allow the hard disk drive to run at full speed, have built in cooling fans & are lockable. If more than one person wishes to use a PC, or if the PC is to be used for potentially conflicting purposes (eg; Business & Games), we can supply 2x or more IBM compatible hard drives`s, each fitted in its own removable caddy. Each user would simply insert their own drive which will contain their own programs etc, & the caddy can be easily removed for safe/secure storage. Additionally; a second IBM compatible drive could be used for backup (simply "Clone" the master drive to the removable unit to ensure that in the event of a hard drive crash, a working clone of the faulty drive can used to replace the original).

Please note that caddies need to be fitted into spare 5.25" (CD ROM) Bays.

DVD-CDRW`s & DVDRW`s for IBM Desktop & IBM Tower PC`s

Please note that MK-x no longer supply basic CD ROM or DVD drives. This is simply because the majority of our customers prefer DVD drives which can also read & write CD`s (DVD-CDRW combo) or DVD+RW drives (which can create DVD`s).

    The MK-x Cream IBM compatible DVD-CDRW is a 16x speed DVD drives which can also read CD`s & write CDR`s at 48x normal speed & write CDRW`s at 24x normal speed. These drives incorporate the "Superlink" error protection system to vastly reduce the number of failed recordings. This drive can be mounted horizontally or Vertically & fits into a standard 5.25" bay.

 

    The MK-x Black IBM compatible DVD-CDRW allows Black IBM Desktops & IBM Towers to be upgraded whilst keeping their distinctive appearance.   This 16x speed DVD drive reads & writes CD`s at 48x normal speed & uses "Superlink" error protection system to vastly reduce the number of failed recordings. This drive can be mounted horizontally or Vertically & fits into a standard 5.25" bay.

 

    The MK-x DVDRW is a IBM compatible DVD Reader/Writer/Re-Writer which is is compatible with both DVD+RW & DVD-RW. This drive can also Read CD`s at 40x normal speed & Write/Re-Write CD-RW disks. These drives incorporate both burn-proof & Anti Bumping technology to vastly reduce the number of failed recordings. This drive is currently only available in cream, and fits into a standard 5.25" bay. MK-x recommend that it is mounted horizontally.

    The above drives can replace or supplement existing full size IBM compatible drives, or can be fitted to systems without a drive by means of the supplied cable & screws.

Graphics/Video Cards for IBM Desktop Computers & IBM Tower Computers

    Many IBM PC`s use built in video cards which will either have their own memory or will share the computers memory. This can cause problems when users want to play recent games or run the screen in high colour or resolution because the card will "struggle to perform correctly. The solution is to fit a new IBM compatible video card which includes its own memory (usually much more memory than onboard video) and a dedicated, fast 3D video processor.

    Video cards for IBM Desktop & IBM Tower PC`s can currently fit into 3x basic types of slot & choosing the correct card is essential. MK-x can advise on the best IBM compatible video card for a particular purpose & provide technical support.

ISA slot            Can be used for connecting older cards

    This is a very old system. MK-x do not supply Video cards for ISA slots.

  

 PCI slot            PCI should be used for video if an AGP slot is not available

    The current MK-x PCI IBM compatible video cards come with 64MB of dedicated memory, use the NVIDIA, ATI or Hercules (3D graphics) chip set & have been successfully sold for & tested in multiple Compaq, HP, Tiny, IBM, Dell Fujitsu & clone PC`s. AGP slot           Dedicated slot for connecting AGP Video Cards

     Be careful; Not all slots which look like AGP are AGP & there are now different types of AGP slot. We recommend that you email queries to MK-x tech support at TECH SUPPORT for our recommendation for your machine.

The fourth type of slot is PCI Express (also known as PCIe or PCIx) which should not be confused with standard PCI. Only the latest (Intel based) systems can currently use this particular type of Graphics card.

Recovery CD`s

Most Computers were originally supplied with one or more Windows Recovery CDs or DVDs (also known as hard drive Restore CDs or DVDs). These disks usually contain an image of what was on the computers hard drive when it was first bought, & they allow you to return the machine to its original state. This is particularly useful if the machine has been attacked by a virus, if the original hard drive has developed a fault, or if you simply wish to replace or upgrade the hard drive, & need to re-install your software.
