Computer Hard Drives; General Info

There are many different types of hard drive. Desktop PCs & Tower PCs tend to use 3.5" (although some used 5.25") IDE drives, whilst laptops tend to use 2.5" units. Although both IDE, the connections on 3.5" & 2.5" drives are totally different MK-x can supply an adapter so that data can be transferred from a 2.5" to 3.5" or visa versa.

Additionally; many laptop PCs now use 2.5" SATA (2.5" Serial ATA) HDDs whilst many tower PCs now use 3.5" SATA (3.5" Serial ATA) HDDs.

Many older PC`s cannot use modern hard drives, will not see the full capacity or cannot use them at their full speeds. MK-x can supply special cards for standard (clone) desktop computers & tower computers which slot into a spare PCI slot to resolve this problem, & can even perform the upgrade at MK-x & (usually) transfer the contents of the old hard drive to the new hard drive.

Supports Windows 98(SE), ME, 2000 & XP.

This IDE 133 card provides users with complete flexibility, & even allows hard drives in excess of 137gb to be fitted/run at full speed on older machines.

MK-x PCI 133 RAID controller has 2x connections which can each allow 2x Ultra ATA 133 drives to be connected & run under RAID 0 or 1. This allows a RAID set to be configured, which will not impact existing drives.

Supports Windows 95 (B), 98, 98(SE), ME, NT4 (sp6), 2000 & XP.

Graphics Cards - Video Cards

Many PC`s use built in video cards which will either have their own memory or will share the computers memory. This can cause problems when users want to play recent games or run the screen in high colour or resolution because the card will "struggle to perform correctly. The solution is to fit a new video card which includes its own memory (usually much more memory than onboard video) and a dedicated, fast 3D video processor.

Desktop computer & tower computer video cards -graphics cards can currently fit into 4x basic types of slot & choosing the correct card is essential. MK-x can advise on the best card for a particular purpose & provide technical support.

ISA slot      Can be used for connecting older cards    This is a very old system. MK-x do not supply Video cards for ISA slots.

PCI slot      Use if AGP is not available    The current MK-x PCI video cards come with dedicated video memory, use the NVIDIA chip set & have been successfully sold for & tested in multiple Compaq, HP, Tiny, IBM, Dell Fujitsu & clone PCs. Simply contact MK-x Technical at TECH SUPPORT, & we will recommend the best card for your particular system.

AGP slot     Used for connecting AGP Video Cards    Be careful; Not all slots which look like AGP are AGP. Also; there are now different types of AGP slot. The simple answer is to email MK-x tech support with your query at TECH SUPPORT. MK-X have a wide range of different specification Video cards to fit various machines.

PCI-E slot (PCI Express slot)   The fourth type of slot is PCI Express (also known as PCIe or PCIx) which should not be confused with standard PCI. Only the latest systems can currently use this particular type of Graphics card.

Recovery CD`s

Most Computers were originally supplied with one or more Windows Recovery CDs or DVDs (also known as hard drive Restore CDs or DVDs). These disks usually contain an image of what was on the computers hard drive when it was first bought, & they allow you to return the machine to its original state. This is particularly useful if the machine has been attacked by a virus, if the original hard drive has developed a fault, or if you simply wish to replace or upgrade the hard drive, & need to re-install your software.

Genner Sales can supply the following Windows Repair CDs, Windows Recovery CDs & Windows Restore CDs.
